LYRICS

I QUIET VOW

An elegant, formally composed song of maternal devotion and endurance — inward, restrained, and resolved into a quiet, lived wholeness.

[VERSE 1 – SOLO SOPRANO]
I watched the blue hold drifting bodies, Each silver turn, a quiet vow.
They moved as if the water listened And gave them shape enough for now.
No one led, yet all were carried, Loss and beauty intertwined,
Until the circling taught my seeing How grace remembers what is mine.

[VERSE 2 – SOLO SOPRANO]
I learned to hold the weight of others With hands that did not try to bind,
To shape a space where growing voices Could arrive in their own time.
I carried love through days of making, Through loss and laughter intertwined,
And watched it pass beyond my keeping Yet remain completely mine.

[VERSE 3 – SOLO SOPRANO]
I held a place for promised closeness, For harmonies that might align,
But learned some doors remain unlabeled And do not open on our time.
I set those hopes among the others, Neither broken nor denied,
And found a life still rich with meaning Standing patiently beside.

[FINAL VERSE – SOLO SOPRANO]
I stood before a field of motion, Threaded light in turning blue,
Each pattern shaped by its releasing More than by the things it knew.
I smiled to see how grace assembles What we never force or plea,
And recognized, with tender humor, What I kept seeking lives in me.
