About My Use of AI

I use generative AI selectively within some of my current creative work, and I believe in being clear about where and how it participates.

My books and earlier writings predate generative AI. Beginning in 2026, some newer work may involve AI as a research, editorial, visual, or developmental tool. I also use Suno, GarageBand, Photoshop, Upscayl and other editing tools in shaping the sound, imagery, presentation and final form of the work.

My songs begin with my own subject and inquiry, often extensive research, conceptual and emotional structure, language, and core lyrics. I sometimes use AI to help develop this material toward song form, and generative music tools as part of realizing the musical performance. I remain deeply involved in the writing, rewriting, selection, musical direction, editing and refinement of the finished work.

I have also discovered an important limitation in AI detection. My older, entirely human-written work consistently tests as human, while some newer work containing substantial original writing and rewriting by me has nevertheless been classified by AI detectors as AI-generated. I have encountered similar results even after substantially rewriting AI-assisted prose myself.

For that reason, I do not regard an AI-detection percentage as a reliable measure of authorship. I prefer to disclose the actual process.

The originating inquiry, conceptual direction, artistic intention and final creative decisions in the work presented here are my own. Where generative tools materially participate in bringing a work into form, I will say so.
